Care and feeding of a Class identity

The VX One Class is going to have a busy six months. This 19-foot speedy sport boat has its North American Championship, inaugural U.S. National Championship, four Miami Winter Series events, and the Bacardi Invitational Regatta. It all leads to its first ever World Championship on April 7-10, 2027 in Miami, FL.

The North Americans is first up, with 43 teams converging on September 24-26 in Holland, MI. The venue has an easy charm with its Dutch heritage everywhere, including a classic windmill. The “Midwest Nice” factor is in full effect with the locals waving as you pass.

Chis Alexander will seek to defend their title amid an entry list with teams from United States, Canada, Australia, Chile, Hong Kong, Great Britain, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The host club has plenty of skin in the game, too, with 13 entries representing Macatawa Bay Yacht Club for a home-water championship.

From its 2011 launch, the class has built its identity around high-performance sailing without losing the culture that keeps sailors traveling together from regatta to regatta: shared debriefs, competitive racing, longtime friendships, and plenty of time laughing together after the boats hit the dock.
