Halcyon Symbios Expands Training Access Across Six Diving Agencies

Halcyon Dive Systems says its Symbios Chest Mount Rebreather is now supported by six internationally recognised diver training organisations, marking another step in the development of the company’s closed-circuit rebreather platform.

The manufacturer has named GUE, IANTD, PADI, SNSI, SSI and TDI as the agencies supporting the Symbios. The announcement broadens the training pathways associated with the unit and gives instructors and dive centres greater flexibility when considering how to introduce the platform to their students.

For divers, the significance is not simply the number of agencies involved. Access to suitable instructors, recognised training pathways and ongoing support can be important considerations when choosing a rebreather, particularly for those planning to progress into more advanced technical diving.

From Certification to Wider Training Access

The announcement follows a series of milestones for the Symbios. In October 2025, The Scuba News reported on GUE’s approval of the rebreather, following CE certification and an extended evaluation programme.

At that stage, GUE outlined plans to introduce the unit through its CCR training framework, with further development of instructor coordination and training materials. The latest announcement suggests that Halcyon is now moving beyond those initial pathways towards a broader network of training organisations.

Halcyon’s current Symbios product information identifies IANTD, TDI and GUE as agencies with approved instructors offering training, while also describing the integration of additional agencies. The company’s six-agency announcement represents a further development, although divers should confirm the availability of specific courses and instructors in their own region.

The company advised affected owners to stop using the equipment until the required inspection and service had been completed. Divers considering the platform should ensure that any unit they use has received all applicable manufacturer updates and safety work, and that training is conducted through an appropriately authorised instructor.

The latest announcement is another indication that Halcyon is seeking to establish the Symbios as a long-term rebreather platform rather than a limited specialist product.
