The Ocean Race Europe 2025, as the precursor to the 15th fully-crewed round the world race in 2027, returns following its debut in 2021. Starting August 10 in Kiel, Germany, seven IMOCA teams will compete on a course with stops in the United Kingdom, Portugal, Spain, France, and Italy before the final finish on September 21 in Montenegro.
Each entrant will have four sailors, plus an on-board reporter, with at least one of the crew being female while two nationalities must be represented across the race crew. For Canadian skipper Scott Shawyer and Canada Ocean Racing, they will be joined by British offshore sailor Pip Hare.
Hare rose to international recognition during the 2020-21 Vendée Globe, and recently managed a dismasting during the 2024-25 edition. Her involvement will provide invaluable insight and mentorship as the team refines its performance and cohesion in the lead-up to future solo, crewed and short-handed campaigns.
“Pip is a ruthless competitor with a huge heart,” said Shawyer. “She brings a rare mix of tenacity, experience, and humanity to the team. Her ability to dig deep and lead through action will be a huge asset to us.”
Her arrival comes at a key moment for the team as they take possession of their new foiling IMOCA yacht (to be announced soon) and commence Shawyer’s build-up toward the Vendée Globe in 2028-29.
“Having been fully focused on solo sailing for the last four years, it’s going to be a great change of pace to join a team and bring my own experience to a more powerful force,” said Hare. ”We’re expecting diverse conditions and relentless competition across the different legs.
“Scott has bought a boat with incredible pedigree, and I’m looking forward to working with the Canada Ocean Racing team to unlock its full potential on the race track.”
