World Sailing has been shortlisted for an IOC Climate Action Awards 2025 in recognition of its efforts to drive sustainability in sport. The IOC Climate Action Awards 2025 celebrate impactful initiatives that address climate change across the Olympic Movement. Fifteen finalists were selected across three categories: Athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and International Federations (IFs).
The awards recognize and reward initiatives that deliver measurable impact in reducing the environmental impact of sport while inspiring and educating others to take meaningful climate action.
World Sailing has been shortlisted in the International Federation category for its collaboration with the Oria Marine Support Fleet Project which addressed the emissions from on-water support vessels at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games by tracking fuel consumption, emissions and efficiency. The system was comprehensively deployed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, identifying a potential for 20% reduction in emissions through fleet management, eco-piloting training and equipment efficiency measures. The project and wider deployment will create the ‘blueprint’ for future sailing events and Games. – Full story
