Woman Airlifted to Hospital After Queensland Scuba Diving Incident

A woman in her 40s was flown to a Brisbane hospital after becoming unwell while scuba diving near Rainbow Beach.

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after becoming unwell during a scuba dive at Inskip, near Rainbow Beach on Queensland’s Cooloola Coast.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 25, with the Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical team tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland at approximately 1:35pm.

The rescue helicopter flew to the area and landed at a nearby airstrip.

A LifeFlight critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic worked alongside local QAS paramedics to assess and treat the woman, who is reported to be in her 40s.

She was subsequently flown to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.

Cause of Medical Incident Not Disclosed

LifeFlight described the incident as a medical condition that developed while the woman was scuba diving, but no further information about the nature of the condition has been released.

There has been no confirmation that the incident involved decompression illness or another diving-specific medical problem, and no details about the woman’s dive profile, depth or circumstances leading up to her becoming unwell have been made public.
