Today’s mini maxis are enormously technical, with complex systems, rigs, rudders, and hydraulics. North Star, a Judel/Vrolijk 76 built by Persico and owned by Peter Dubens of Oakley Capital, the private equity group that owns North Technology Group, launched this summer.
At the end of her second week of sailing Seahorse caught up with navigator Miles Seddon, who confirms that these boats are “some of the most complex monohulls on the planet.”
There are more than 60 sensors on board, including 13 load cells, 10 linear sensors to measure hydraulic ram positions and 20 pressure sensors. In addition, a LIDAR system scans and records sail shape in real time. – Full report
