Pinckney wins 2026 Governor’s Cup

Morgan Pinckney (USA) won the 2026 Governor’s Cup was held July 28-August 1 in Newport Beach, CA. This was the 59th edition of the oldest international youth match racing regatta, with 12 teams racing Governor’s Cup 22 sloops.

Pinckney’s team of Sabrina Anderson, Cam Spriggs, and Kelly Holthus struggled in the double round robin qualifying stage but closed strong to secure the fourth and final slot, with James Hayhoe (AUS) and Josh Hyde (NZL) topping the field. But it was the locals, Pinckney and Siena Nichols (USA), that won their Semi Final matches to meet in the Final.

As the reigning Youth Match Racing World Champion, Pinckney found his groove in the Finals, displacing Nichols 3-0. In the Petit Final, Hayhoe won the first race but Hyde won the next two to take the match.
