The American windsurfing world will be on display as the US Windsurfer Class Association hosts the 2026 Windsurfer LT US National Championships on November 6–8 in Clearwater, FL. Launched in 2018, the Windsurfer LT is a modern evolution of the original Windsurfer which shook the world in 1968.
More than 80 sailors have registered from 19 of the 50 states and five countries, including Australia, Austria, Germany, Japan, and Kenya. Florida brings the largest delegation with 25 sailors, followed by California with 15.
Some of the most accomplished names in the sport’s history will be competing:
• Windsurfing Hall of Fame inductees Tom Pace, Kelby Bruno, and Scotty O’Conner.
• Mike Gebhardt, two-time Olympic medalist (bronze in 1988, silver in 1992) and five-time Olympian.
• Scott Steele, 1984 Olympic silver medalist and the first American to win an Olympic windsurfing medal.
• Lanee Butler, Olympian.
• Seppi Salvenmoser of Austria, a four-time Division II European Champion who finished third at the Windsurfer LT World Championships in Finland.
Sailors will compete in Course Racing, Long Distance, Freestyle, and Slalom across four weight divisions, seven age divisions, and Women’s and Cruiser classes. This year also debuts three new perpetual trophies: the Gardner Cup for Women’s Overall Champion, the LT Board for Overall Top Youth, and the Dagger Award for Women’s Top Freestyle.
