Police Investigating Fatal Night Dive Off Hawaii Coast

A 30-year-old man has died following a night diving incident

A 30-year-old man has died following a night diving incident off the coast of Kaʻaʻawa on the windward side of Oʻahu, Hawaii.

According to local broadcaster Hawaii News Now, emergency services responded after the diver was found unresponsive in the water at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

The man was brought ashore, where first responders attempted lifesaving measures. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Honolulu Police confirmed there were no signs of foul play, and the incident remains under investigation.

At the time of publication, authorities have not released the diver’s identity pending notification of next of kin, and no additional information has been provided regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident.

It is also unclear whether the diver was using scuba equipment or was participating in another form of diving, such as freediving or spearfishing.

Night diving presents unique challenges even for experienced divers. Reduced visibility, navigation difficulties and increased reliance on equipment and dive planning all make thorough preparation essential. While fatal diving incidents remain relatively uncommon, investigators typically examine environmental conditions, equipment, medical factors and dive planning before determining the cause of death.

The Scuba News will update this story as additional information becomes available from Honolulu Police or other official sources.
