The Maui News – Robby Naish of Haiku was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame on Sunday in Newport, R.I.
Naish, owner of 24 windsurfing world championships, is also the founder of a multimillion-dollar watersports business.
“My message to you all is to remember how lucky you are to be able to get out on the water and experience nature in a way that is difficult to experience any other way,” Naish said.
Naish was introduced by J.J. Fetter, a 2015 Hall of Fame inductee.
“For over a quarter century in every discipline from slalom and wave riding to course racing, Robby Naish has a record that likely will never be matched,” Fetter said.
Also inducted where two-time Olympic sailing medalists Bill Bentsen and Randy Smyth, yacht designer Ray Hunt, former U.S. Sailing and U.S. Olympic Committee president Bill Martin, North Sails executive Tom Whidden, boatbuilder Clark Mills and International One-Design class founder Corny Shields.
