Naish inducted into National Sailing Hall

The Maui News – Robby Naish of Haiku was inducted into the National Sailing Hall of Fame on Sunday in Newport, R.I.

Naish, owner of 24 windsurfing world championships, is also the founder of a multimillion-dollar watersports business.

“My message to you all is to remember how lucky you are to be able to get out on the water and experience nature in a way that is difficult to experience any other way,” Naish said.

Naish was introduced by J.J. Fetter, a 2015 Hall of Fame inductee.

“For over a quarter century in every discipline from slalom and wave riding to course racing, Robby Naish has a record that likely will never be matched,” Fetter said.

Also inducted where two-time Olympic sailing medalists Bill Bent­sen and Randy Smyth, yacht designer Ray Hunt, former U.S. Sailing and U.S. Olympic Committee president Bill Martin, North Sails executive Tom Whidden, boatbuilder Clark Mills and International One-Design class founder Corny Shields.
