A new scuba diving centre has opened in Brookfield, Connecticut, with plans to bring fresh energy to the region’s diving community.
The shop, Life’s a Beach Scuba, opened its doors earlier this year at 67 Federal Road, offering equipment sales, training, and dive trips for both new and experienced divers. According to reporting by CT Insider, the centre held a soft opening in mid-February 2026, with a grand opening event scheduled for March 8.
The business is run by Vic Granchelli, a diver with decades of experience who has been active in the industry since the 1990s. Granchelli has also operated a scuba-related business since 2009, providing services such as private instruction, underwater inspections, and recovery dives.
Inside the shop, divers can find a range of equipment including masks, fins, snorkels, regulators, lights, and underwater cameras. The store also carries diving-themed items such as underwater photography prints and jewellery crafted from lionfish fins.
Filling a Gap in the Local Dive Scene
The opening comes at a time when the number of dive shops in parts of Connecticut has declined. Several long-standing retailers have closed in recent years as owners retired or businesses struggled to remain viable.
For Granchelli, the new shop is as much about rebuilding a community as it is about selling equipment. Speaking to CT Insider, he described scuba diving in the northeastern United States as “a labor of love,” noting the short warm-water season and challenges facing small dive businesses.
Despite those challenges, the centre aims to expand local diving opportunities. Plans include pool-based training sessions, organised trips to coastal dive sites, and the revival of a regional dive club to reconnect divers across the state.
Encouraging the Next Generation of Divers
Beyond recreational diving, the shop also plans to work with community organisations and public safety teams.
Granchelli has previously collaborated with local police dive teams and hopes to continue supporting those relationships through the new centre. The business is also exploring opportunities to introduce younger people to scuba through youth programmes and certification courses.
For many divers in the region, the opening represents a welcome addition to the local diving infrastructure. With training, equipment, and community activities all under one roof, Life’s a Beach Scuba hopes to create a hub for divers looking to stay active in the sport despite the seasonal challenges of diving in the Northeast.
