In a milestone for Saudi diving, Ghaida Al-Hamad has become the deepest Saudi woman diver after descending to 127 meters in the Red Sea, setting a new national benchmark and redefining what is possible for women in technical diving. The achievement, first reported by Saudi Gazette, highlights both her technical skill and the growing presence of women in Saudi Arabia’s diving community.
Al-Hamad’s dive, completed off the Saudi coast, was the culmination of years of disciplined training, with more than 1,000 logged dives, including around 200 technical dives and numerous descents beyond 80 meters. Her journey began in 2020 when she earned her PADI international diving certification, followed by instructor and Advanced Trimix qualifications – key credentials that enable divers to safely reach extreme depths.
“Depth is not just a number,” Al-Hamad said. “It is a journey within oneself and a test of calmness and self-confidence.” That mindset, along with a rigorous focus on safety and precision, has positioned her among the region’s most accomplished divers.
Breaking Barriers Beneath the Surface
While 127 meters does not break any global depth records, it is a national milestone for Saudi women, echoing the pioneering efforts of divers like Nouf Alosaimi, who has also championed female participation in the sport according to Al Arabiya English.
Al-Hamad’s success represents a powerful shift in a country where adventure sports are rapidly evolving and women are increasingly taking leading roles in technical disciplines. She hopes her dive will inspire more women to explore the Red Sea’s depths and challenge the limits once thought unreachable.
As she put it simply, “The depths still call me.”
