Newport Beach, CA (August 10, 2021) – The 2021 Youth Match Racing World Championship began today for the nine teams from five countries, completing eight flights of the double round robin series. Staying perfect was local Jeffrey Petersen (USA) at 7-0, followed by Emil Kjaer (Den) and Riccardo Sepe (ITA) at 5-1.
One semifinalist is chosen from the round robin stage with the other eight teams to race a third, “repechage” round robin from which top three teams will advance to the semi-finals.
The racing tomorrow features conditions expected to be similar to today’s with 5-7 knots of breeze in the late morning, increasing to 9-10 knots through the afternoon. Racing is in Gov Cup 22 class sloops on August 10-14
