I’m no fan of the “foiling is the future” phrase as it infers that “everything else is the past.” If that’s the case, our sport is screwed, yet The Foiling Organization is committed to making foiling a way of life. Sorry… just too George Jetson for me.
To highlight all things foiling, TFO annually recognizes the best projects, athletes, and events in various categories. Since the winners of The Foiling Awards are selected by public vote, I’m also no fan of these awards. “Best of” recognition should be based on merit, not popularity.
I’ve shared my position on fan votes before, but I’m just peeing into the wind. Fan votes are to heighten interest, which is the goal of The Foiling Organization. The 8th edition of The Foiling Awards had 14 categories, which provides a lot of opportunity to heighten interest.
If I’m alone with my opinion (wouldn’t be the first time), click here for the 2025 award winners. By the way, the headline is something George said to his wife Jane. Evolving toward the future has risks.
