The start of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season is less than 90 days away, and with it comes a new set of names from the National Hurricane Center.
The season, which starts on June 1 and runs until Nov. 30, features names for storms that develop over the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf, and the Caribbean Sea. There are 21 names in alphabetical order, skipping the letters Q, U, X, Y, and Z.
Names are used every six years if they aren’t retired because a storm caused significant damage or loss of life. This year’s list of names is the same as the list used in 2020, but missing is Laura which became the strongest hurricane to hit Louisiana since 1969 when it made landfall in August 2020 as a Category 4 hurricane.
