Focus on inclusivity for Youth Olympics

While the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was all about foiling for the kite and windsurfer events, World Sailing selected the low-riding Techno 293 Class for the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games on October 31-November 13 in Dakar, Senegal. This is the fourth edition of the Youth Games, initially scheduled for 2022 but postponed due to the pandemic.

The Techno 293 was used at Singapore 2010 and Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games while Buenos Aires 2018 used the Techno 293+ for the windsurfing events. The Sailing Competition will be represented by Men’s and Women’s Windsurfing each with a confirmed quota of 24 athletes, who must be aged between 14 and 16 years old at the time of the competition.

The steeper learning curve and higher cost of foiling equipment made the Techno 293 an attractive option as it is globally available and easy to control. “Sailing has been a core sport in all three of the previous editions, and we are v
