When Scuttlebutt Sailing Club was founded in 2001, it was a reaction to a requirement within the 2001-2004 Racing Rules of Sailing that anyone on a racing boat – skipper and crew – be members of a club recognized by a national sailing authority.
While this requirement was soon amended, SSC continues on as the official club of Scuttlebutt Sailing News, and is frequently used to satisfy the entry requirement in the Racing Rules of Sailing. Membership requests come often, but this inquiry is a new one:
“I am writing to express my interest in a volunteer or internship position at your sailing club. I have over four years of experience in sailing, including Optimist, Laser, and Catamaran boats, and I am passionate about developing my skills and contributing to the sailing community.
“I am confident that my experience, teamwork skills, and commitment to learning will allow me to make a positive contribution to your club. I am flexible and willing to assist in any area required, including supporting sailing programs, maintenance of boats, and organizing events.
“I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to be part of your team and gain hands-on experience in a professional sailing environment.”
