Egypt Raises Tourist Visa Fee to $45 Following Presidential Decree

Egypt has confirmed an increase in its single-entry tourist visa

Egypt has confirmed an increase in its single-entry tourist visa fee from $25 to $45, marking the first adjustment in more than ten years. The change was formalised through a presidential decree published in the country’s Official Gazette, taking effect on December 1, 2025.

The decision aligns with a broader review of Egypt’s consular service fees approved by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The increase applies to all single-entry tourist visas issued at airports, embassies, and consulates.

An Arabic-language report from Asharq Al-Awsat confirmed that the adjustment forms part of Law No. 175 of 2025, which amends various administrative fees across Egyptian government services.

While the new rate is now officially in force, some tourism operators have noted uncertainty around its implementation timeline for pre-booked travel packages. Nonetheless, Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is expected to provide clarification for tour operators and international partners.

Impact on Divers and Travellers

For scuba divers and travel professionals, the increase represents a modest rise in entry costs but is unlikely to deter visitors drawn by Egypt’s world-class Red Sea destinations such as Hurghada, Marsa Alam, and Sharm El-Sheikh. Tour operators anticipate that demand will remain strong given the country’s competitive pricing for liveaboard and shore-based diving holidays.

The Red Sea remains one of the most accessible and affordable tropical diving regions globally, and Egypt continues to offer visas on arrival for eligible nationalities alongside an e-visa system via the official Egypt e-Visa portal.

What This Means for Visitors

Travellers planning a trip to Egypt from December 2025 onward should budget for the higher visa fee and ensure they apply through official government channels. Many travel agencies and online booking platforms, including Expedia and Viator, have begun updating package information to reflect the new entry requirements.

As Egypt continues to enhance its tourism infrastructure and global connectivity, the visa fee adjustment appears aimed at aligning with regional standards while maintaining accessibility for international tourists.

The Scuba News View

While the fee increase may attract short-term debate within the travel sector, Egypt’s reputation as a premier diving destination is unlikely to waver. For many, the allure of the Red Sea’s coral reefs, historic wrecks, and year-round visibility will continue to outweigh minor administrative costs.
