Diver Missing Off Kauai Sparks Major Search Effort in Hawaii

Authorities in Hawaii are conducting an extensive search for 44-year-old Bryson Higashi, who went missing this week while diving near Hanalei Bay on Kauai’s north shore. The operation, led by the U.S. Coast Guard with support from local emergency services, began after reports of a possible person in the water late Wednesday afternoon.

The case has drawn widespread attention, with assets including rescue boats, aircraft, and the Coast Guard Cutter William Hart deployed to comb the area. According to ABC News, the search is being challenged by shifting weather, reduced visibility, and seas up to four feet.

Local responders confirmed that Higashi’s vehicle was later found unattended near Hanalei Bay, prompting concerns about his movements before entering the water. The Kauai Fire Department and Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources are assisting in the effort, which continues across both land and sea.
