But very often, it’s only when you slow down and look really closely that you get a sense of them, from the predatory to the pushy, and from the symbiotic to the sociable.
Photography gives us extraordinary access to these interactions, whether it’s the playfulness of dolphins, as captured by this issue’s Big Shots winner, Stephanie Doniger, or mutually advantageous arrangements such as Harun Dumanli’s highly commended eel and shrimp.
Stephanie wins an Aggressor Adventures’ liveaboard trip in Raja Ampat, Indonesia. The highly commended each receive a year’s print and digital subscription to DIVE Magazine, while the other entries published receive a digital subscription alone.
Thank you all for entering!
For our next issue, the theme is Patterns and Textures. We want to see images that explore all aspects of marine and freshwater life.
That might mean the delicate structure of coral, the unusual play of sunlight on the surface up above or an extravagantly patterned cephalopod – let your imagination be your guide.
The winner, selected by DIVE’s editorial staff, will receive a trip on an Aggressor Adventures liveaboard in the Red Sea, worth £1,993.
